Building a sugar cube igloo is a great project for kids of all ages. It is an easy and inexpensive idea that is great for a Christmas party, birthday party, or just a rainy day. Not only is a sugar cube igloo fun to build, it is also a educational. In the process of building the igloo, kids learn about structures and construction.
Stuff needed:
Cardboard
pencil
Sugar Cubes
vanilla frosting
Step 1.
Draw a circle on the cardboard to use as a guide for the first level of sugar cubes. A 7 inch diameter is a good size for the foundation.
Step 2.
Arrange the sugar cubes around the circle, leaving a gap of at least 2 sugar cubes for the doorway to the igloo.
Step 3.
Apply some frosting to the bottom of the next layer of sugar cubes and place them slightly closer to the center of the circle. The cubes should be staggered, with each cube in the next layer centered over the two cubes of the previous layer.
Step 4
Repeat step 3, making each additional circle smaller than the previous one until the roof of the igloo is fully formed. Continue to leave a gap for the doorway until you reach the 4th level of sugar cubes.
Step 5
Build the archway for the door of the igloo. The archway should be 2 sugar cubes deep.
Tips:
Once your igloo is complete, you can decorate it with sugar or coconut to simulate snow. You can also add animals or toy trees to make a winter scene.
